Apple’s iPhone 17 Series to Feature 120Hz Displays
Apple’s iPhone 17 Series to Feature 120Hz Displays and Advanced Chipsets Across All Models, Rumors Suggest
Apple recently launched its iPhone 16 series globally, sparking rumors about the next-generation iPhone 17 series, which is expected in the latter half of next year. The upcoming iPhone 17 lineup is anticipated to bring several advancements, including a new iPhone 17 Air model, and potentially new display technology, according to a recent report from South Korea. This series may feature LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) screens with a high refresh rate, an upgrade over the current 60Hz displays in non-Pro models.
Apple is reportedly planning to equip all models in the iPhone 17 lineup with 120Hz ProMotion displays, using LTPO screens from Samsung and LG. This technology, which is currently limited to Pro models, enhances screen smoothness and responsiveness during activities like scrolling, animations, and gaming, while also conserving power.
Earlier insights from Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants suggest that Apple will expand 120Hz ProMotion displays to all models in its 2025 lineup, including non-Pro versions. Apple first introduced these high-refresh-rate ProMotion displays in 2021 with its Pro models, which also support an always-on display feature.
Meanwhile, the current iPhone 16 series features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display for the standard model and a 6.7-inch version for the iPhone 16 Plus, both capped at 60Hz.
The iPhone 17 Pro models are rumored to include the A19 Pro chip paired with 12GB of RAM, while the standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air might feature either the A18 or A19 chip with 8GB of RAM. All four models are expected to sport a 24-megapixel front-facing camera.
