U.S. FDA advisers support modernization thrusts for the elderly and high-risk individuals

A panel of expert advisers from the US Food and Drug Administration unanimously voted on Thursday to recommend a booster injection of COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna Inc. to Americans aged 65 and over and those at high risk of serious illness or occupational exposure to the virus. on Reuters.

If the FDA signs Modern’s enhancer, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will give special recommendations on who should be given injections. CDC advisers are scheduled to meet next week.

The FDA’s advisory board for vaccines and related biological products met Thursday to consider an additional dose of Moderna and will consider making a similar recommendation for Johnson & Johnson (JNJ.N) on Friday. The vote in support of Modern Amplifiers was 19-0.

“The data themselves are not strong, but they are certainly going in a direction that supports this vote,” said Dr. Patrick Moore of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Moore said that he voted for Modern amplifiers based mainly on “the feeling of the intestines, and not on really serious data”.

Shares of Moderna rose nearly 3% to $ 330.71 after the vote.
