ROCHESTER, NH (CBS) – A woman in Rochester, New Hampshire, desperately wants to find the driver who hit her husband and then took off. Mat Lefebvre was seriously injured on Monday.

“It’s pretty bad,” said Nicole Lefebvre, Matt’s wife. “It’s awful you can’t recognize your husband.”

She was in tears describing the escape and the escape that Matt had sent to the hospital. He cannot walk or stand at the moment.

“He had swelling of the spinal cord. He had 25 paper clips in his head, ”said Nicole.

A father of three was outside on Monday morning at work in Rochester when he was hit by a car.

“He was sure that person would get out of the car and help him at that point, but instead, he heard them press the gas again, transport him, and then get stuck under a car dragging down the main street. And he fought over and over again, under the car, ”Nicole said.

Matt screamed throughout the agony and managed to see the car as he drove away.

“The victim described this to us at the moment, in this case it was a darker, possibly blue SUV,” said Rochester Police Captain Todd Pinkham.

Lefebvre, an experienced runner, broke nine ribs and one leg. Among other injuries, he suffered a lung puncture.

“It’s awful to even think that there are people who are capable of something like that,” said Kimberly Lefebvre, Matt’s aunt.

She founded GoFundMe, which raised more than $ 30,000 to help with her recovery. His family and police beg the driver to do the right thing.

“I want them to call so my husband can rest, so he can finally feel like he has justice,” Nicole said.
