KUALA TERENGGANU, Sept 23 — Twelve families who were affected by a fire that destroyed a row of shops in Kampung Cina here last Sunday evening received an initial assistance of RM1,000 today from the Prime Minister’s Office.

The cash assistance was delivered by the Prime Minister’s Political Secretary, Datuk Mohammad Anuar Mohd Yunus, to each involved household head to ease their burden.

Mohammad Anuar said he would discuss with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob about other forms of assistance to the victims.

“I visited the place of the incident and on behalf of the prime minister I sympathize with what happened.

“I understand that there was initial assistance directed by the state government and today I have come to represent the prime minister to hand over a small donation on his behalf,” he said after visiting the site of the Kampung Cina fire today.

Mohammad Anuar also said that he would discuss with the Prime Minister how to help all the victims through the relevant agencies, as the shops were built on land with a Temporary Occupancy License (TOL) status.

The fire at 8.15pm destroyed 12 shops in Jalan Bandar, Kampung Cina, including a clothes shop, a restaurant, a jewelery shop and a motel.

Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department Director, Dr. Hlman Abd Rashid, previously said that no element of the crime had been discovered. — Bernama
